Privacy statement

This statement is a first version. We will have it checked before we accept material from families.

This statement sets out what information we collect, why, how long we keep it and what your rights are. We have tried to write it so that you can read it in one go.

Who we are

Abeel · film portrait studio · the company (B.V.) is being set up

If you contact us through this site or by email, or order a film portrait from us yourself, we are responsible for what happens to your information. You can read exactly what that involves below. If you come to us through a funeral director, we put in writing with that funeral director what the GDPR (in Dutch, the AVG) requires, including which of the two of us is responsible for what.

The contact form and email

What information
your name, your email address, your message, and anything you choose to include in it.

to answer your question.

your consent, which you give by ticking the box under the form. You can withdraw it at any time.

12 months after we were last in touch.

The form for funeral directors

What information
your name, the name of your funeral business, and your phone number or email address.
What for
to contact you about the pilot, a first meeting or working together.
Legal basis
our legitimate interest. You contacted us yourself about a business relationship.
How long
until 12 months after the end of the pilot, or for a shorter time if you ask us to.

Material for a film portrait

You don’t send photos, videos or other material for a film portrait through this site, but through a private link we give you. You can also read how we handle that material on the How we work page.

What information
the photos, videos, writing, letters, sound recordings and music you send us, the name and dates of the person the film is about, your name and contact details, and our notes from the conversation.
What for
to make the film portrait and deliver it to you. Not for advertising and not for other films.
Legal basis
the agreement we make with you about the film.
Where
what you upload is stored in the European Union. For part of the work we use AI services, and some of them operate outside the European Union. They are listed below, under ‘Who we share information with’.
How long
the photos, videos and anything else you sent, and our notes, until 30 days after you receive the film. You can download the film itself for 90 days, after which we delete our copy too. If you ask us to keep the film for longer, or give written consent for it to be shown, we keep only the film, for as long as we agree with you.

Invoices

We keep the information on invoices for seven years, because tax law requires it.

Who we share information with

We don’t sell your information and we don’t pass it on for advertising. We use a few service providers:

  • Netlify, United States: the website and the forms. What you fill in on a form is stored by Netlify.
  • Google Workspace: our email. Your emails to us and the notifications from the forms arrive in our mailbox at Google, and we reply to you from there. Google keeps these messages for us and may also process information outside the European Union, such as in the United States.
  • Storage for what you send us, in the European Union: this is where the photos, videos and anything else you send us for a film portrait are kept. We’ll name the service here before we accept material from families.
  • Our own server, in the European Union: we do part of the work on images and video here ourselves.
  • Higgsfield: moving images. Through Higgsfield we use Seedance’s video models to set photos in motion and make scenes. For this, photos and descriptions go to Higgsfield.
  • Kling: moving images. We use Kling to set photos in motion. For this, photos and descriptions go to Kling.
  • ElevenLabs: the narrating voice. ElevenLabs makes the spoken narration in Verhaal and Film. For this, the narration text goes to ElevenLabs.
  • A recreated voice: if you ask us to recreate a voice, the recordings of that voice and the text it speaks go to a service that recreates voices. We’ll name that service here, and the country where it works, before we recreate a voice for the first time.

Higgsfield, Kling and ElevenLabs may also process information outside the European Union. We only send them what they need for the work we ask of them.

Cookies

This site sets no cookies and does not track what visitors do. Nor does it load anything from other parties: the fonts and everything else come from this site itself. As with any website, the server the site runs on does see your IP address. Without it, the server could not send you the pages. That server belongs to Netlify.

Your rights

You can ask us at any time what information we have about you. You can ask us to correct it or delete it, to restrict its use, or to send it to you in a common file format. You can also object to what we do with your information. If you have given consent, you can withdraw it at any time.

To do this, email privacy@abeel.studio. We will reply within one month.

If you are unhappy with how we handle your information, you can complain to the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens, the Dutch data protection authority (autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl).

Changes

If we change this statement, we will put the new version here, with the date.
